Dolly Parton Earns Unique Honor In Tennessee
Tennessee Governor Lee just signed a resolution honoring country music legend Dolly Parton.
Turning to Facebook, Governor Lee wrote, “Proud to sign this resolution and recognize our TN Treasure Dolly Parton for her contributions to children’s literacy. Since 1995, Dolly has worked beyond 9 to 5 to distribute 152+ million books to 1.8+ million kids.
Thank you, Dolly! TN will always love you. Facebook fans agreed, with one writing, “Wonderful lady. [Dolly Parton] has taken good care of her people and Tennessee. She deserves Recognition for all she has done.”
The resolution praised Dolly as “one of Tennessee’s most beloved and accomplished daughters, a supremely gifted and multi-talented writer, entertainer, and businesswoman whose compassionate spirit is at the heart of all she does and whose philanthropy has touched the lives of millions around the world.”
From singing on local television and radio shows in Knoxville, Tennessee at the age 10 to heading to Nashville directly after high school graduation, Parton showed determination to become a country music treasure at an early age. The Country Music Association (CMA) named her Female Artist of the Year multiple times, honoring her also as the CMA Entertainer of the Year.
Dolly Parton Contributes to Rory Feek Country Music Album: Watch the Video!
Country music singer and songwriter Rory Feek is known for his blog. On a recent post, Rory shared how Dolly Parton contributed to “One Angel.”
Featuring Dolly, “One Angel” offers a tribute to Feek’s beloved late wife Joey. Parton served as a heroine to Joey, and when Dolly learned that Rory’s wife was dying, she sent love and support.
“Joey grew up idolizing Dolly,” recalled Feek in his blog. “Her very first performance at Cunningham Elementary School back home in Indiana was [Dolly Parton’s song] Coat Of Many Colors. She wanted to be Dolly… To be LIKE Dolly.”
Joey even moved to Nashville to follow in Parton’s path. And as she struggled with cancer, supported by her husband Rory, Joey gained strength from the country music she loved. She also touched other people’s lives.
“Although Joey never got to meet her in person, a few weeks before Joey passed away, Dolly sent her a video,” wrote Rory. “Telling Joey what a big fan she was of hers and encouraging her in her struggle.”
Five years later, Rory recorded a song for his new album called One Angel. When Dolly Parton learned of the song, she said that she wanted to sing a verse.
