Stories that Will Be Shared At the 2021 National Memorial Day Concert
Vince Gill, Mickey Guyton, and Alan Jackson are not the only must see performances at the National Memorial Day Concert.
Vietnam Nurses Tribute: It will be performed by Emmy Award-winning actress Kathy Baker (PICKET FENCES). More than 265,000 women served during the Vietnam War era and they will be remembered in the concert. A special tribute will be paid to their courageous deeds, the lives they saved, and others they comforted in their dying moments.
Diane Carlson Evans, founder of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C., will share her experiences during the concert.
70th Anniversary of the Korean War: It’s been 70 years since the war that saw 1.7 million Americans fighting and the loss of over 36,000 lives.
The courage and heroism of the 2nd Ranger Infantry Company that opened possibilities for African American men and women will be highlighted.
20th Anniversary of 9/11 and Gold Star Families: With a segment hosted by Steve Buscemi, the concert will remember the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001, and all those people who lost their lives.
The terrorist attacks encouraged many Americans to join the all-volunteer armed forces. It will honor service members and their families who have been affected by a generation of war and share the heart-warming story of a Gold Star Family.
The National Memorial Day Concert will air on May 30, 202, from 8 o’clock to 9:30 p.m. E.T., as well as to the troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network.
The concert will also be streaming on Facebook, YouTube and www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert and will be available as Video on Demand, May 30 to June 13, 2021.
