Vince Gill and Amy Grant have been married for the past 11 years, and recently, they had a little chit-chat with AARP to discuss their relationship – a connection which didn’t kickstart smoothly for them.
How Vince Gill and Amy Met
The power couple met during in 1993. However, at that time they were both married to different people. Vince Gill was married to Janis Oliver while Grant was married to TV host and Christian singer Gary Chapman, with whom she had three children. Amy Grant revealed while speaking with AARP that her marriage “had been rocky from the get-go. I’d been holding steady for 15 years in something that was not easy to hold steady.”
As fate would have it, Vince Gill and Amy Grant had a few concerts together during the 1993 Christmas period. Grant said, “I knew from the tips of my toes that he was unlike anybody I had ever met. I was just so overwhelmed by him as a person that I finally came up behind him and wrapped my arms around him and said, ‘I’ve needed to do this all night.”
As a matter of fact, she said that Gill had caught her off guard, and she didn’t know what she was going to do about it.
Vince Gill & Amy Grant Cheating Rumors
As time went on, Vince Gill wrote songs that seem to have been inspired by Grant, like ‘Whenever You Come Around’ and ‘When Loves Finds You.’ Right from that moment, the media started circulating news about infidelity between them.
However, Gill was quick to address the rumors even when friends could see the chemistry he and Grant had. Although he said they were crazy about each other when rumors started swirling, he knew that was not their life. Nevertheless, they did not imagine that they would end up as a couple.
Grant on her part as she explained to AARP said she was reading the newspaper in April 1997 when she found out Gill was legally separating from his then-wife. Two years later, she and Chapman were divorced, and when the divorce finalized, she and Gill started dating.
Vince and Amy Got Married
The couple tied the knot in March 2000 and their worst nightmare turned out to be blending their families. Amy Grant’s children were 12, 10, and 7 when they finally got married, but they did not accept her new marriage very well. Gill said what became the family’s connecting tissue was the birth of their daughter, Corrina, the next year. He said Corrina was the glue of this whole family. “She bonded all of us in a blood way that did connect us.”
The couple’s mutual friend Rodney Crowell summed their relationship up this way: “Sometimes one person in your life puts that final block in place, and you step into the ownership of who you are. That was a positive merging right there. Two great, fun-loving, accessible people. They’re the perfect couple and parents, fully realized human beings and philanthropists. And there’s no pretension about them, which is very rare.”
The power couple has been happily living together since they legalized their union and they shared the stage together at New York’s Carnegie Hall on April 20, 2021.
