Grammy award winning singer B.J. Thomas revealed on his social media channel that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The musician also thanked his wife for all her support through the years.
Announcement of the musician’s condition
The 78-year-old released a heartfelt statement on his socials revealing his diagnosis on March 23. The message disclosed that the singer is receiving treatment at a local hospital in Texas and is hoping to make a complete recovery.
“I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to record and perform beautiful songs in pop, country, and gospel music, and to share those wonderful songs and memories around the world with millions of you. I ask all of you for your prayers during this time and that my music can live on with you,” the 5-time Grammy winner shared.
His songs have appeared on the pop, country and Christian charts and include hit songs like Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head (1969), which was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014, Hooked on a Feeling, (Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song, the longest titled Billboard number one song ever.
Thomas currently has tour dates scheduled, with the tours set to begin on April 17 in Everett, Washington, and currently still hopes that he will be able to keep to the show’s timeline and perform as planned.
Thomas was also named in the top 50 of Billboard’s most played artists in the history of the chart’s existence. He has sold over 70 million albums worldwide and charted 8 songs on the top of the Billboard hot 100.

B.J. Thomas’ Family
Thomas is married to singer/songwriter Gloria Richardson in December 1968, and they have three daughters together: Paige (born 1970), Nora (adopted from North Korea) and Erin (born in 1979). Thomas and his wife are also grandparents.
His marriage nearly ended in the 1970s due to his dependence on alcohol and drugs. In 1975, he converted to Christianity less than a month after his wife did.
Thomas leads a private life and not very much is known of his personal life. He is also listed as being among the hundreds of artists who lost their masters during a fire outbreak at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2008.
