Luke Bryan Has COVID-19 – Forced to Leave American Idol

Luke Bryan, American Idol judge has COVID-19 and has to bow out of this season’s American Idol live debut episode. The Georgia native stated that he is doing well and is recovering at home.

The country singer just released the single Waves and must miss the first live performance of the season; judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will appear.

Hs seat won’t be empty however as former Idol judge Paula Abdul, who kicked off the original season with Simon Cowell in 2002, will sub for Bryan.

Luke Bryan Has COVID

Bryan shared the news with his fans on social media: “I’m sad to say I won’t be a part of tonight’s first live @americanidol show. I tested positive for Covid but I’m doing well and look forward to being back at it soon.”

According to TMZ, the country super star will most likely be forced to quarantine for at least 14 days.

And Deadline stated that it is not known how long Bryan will be gone from the show which is returning live for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic cancelled virtually all television and film production worldwide.

Paula Abdul Will Sub For Luke Bryan

Bryan joined AI on Season 16 and no doubt was planning to promote his new music video for Waves on Monday night’s episode of American Idol. In addition he has been promoting Vogue model and up-and-coming actor Travis Riker.

Despite the lingering presence of the pandemic, Covid-19 guidelines will be followed throughout the set and all necessary precautions will be taken for the live show. For instance, all audience members will be masked, tested and seated in groups with their immediate households according to American Idol showrunner Trish Kinane. Additionally the producers have been given guidance from the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

Luke Bryan Will Not Be on the American Idol Live Episode

This year has been trying for Bryan. Last month Bryan needed medical treatment after getting a fish hook stuck in his thumb, an incident he detailed in a series of Instagram videos.

Luke shared a close-up of the stuck hook with the caption: “Dammit.” He said in a video clip, “Well, this is gonna leave a mark. Pretty sure that’s in my bone.”

Luke joked he had “ruined” the day but swore not to let his injury stop him from resuming the fishing trip.
