The Academy of Country Music Awards (CMA) Announced Performers for the Show

The Academy of Country Music Awards have officially released its list of performers and official award playlist, and there are more than 25 performers that are set to perform more than 30 songs. It’s a star-studded affair that will be co-hosted by the country legend Keith Urban and Country music’s new female artist of the year nominee, Mickey Guyton.

Academy of Country Music Awards Welcomes Diversity

The Academy of Country Music is showing support to the little black artists who have chosen to perform music in that genre, with four black artists set to perform at the upcoming award show. Mickey Guyton is co-hosting the show with Keith Urban. Keith Urban has openly expressed his excitement to be hosting the show with Guyton who he had previously performed with on the show.

Kane Brown is nominated for album of the year and will also perform at the show. He also graced the stage at the last Academy of Country Award Show. CeCe Winans, the gospel powerhouse, is expected to team up with Carrie Underwood for a rendition of Great Is Thy Faithfulness, a song they collaborated on for Carrie’s latest and first gospel album, My Savior.

The husband and wife duo, The War and Treaty are also amongst the performers that will grace the stage live.

A record number of four black artists are nominated for this year’s award. Kane Brown, Mickey Guyton, and two others not included in the performance line-up: Jimmie Allen and John Legend, who is nominated along with Carrie Underwood for “Hallelujah”.

List of Performers

The artists performing at the event will include Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Lee Brice, Brothers Osborne, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Dan + Shay, Mickey Guyton, Ryan Hurd, Jack Ingram, Alan Jackson, Elle King, Miranda Lambert.

Others also set to perform include Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Carly Pearce, Jon Randall, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton, Chris Stapleton, The War and Treaty, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, CeCe Winans, and Chris Young.

Absent from the line-up and from any of the nomination categories is Morgan Wallen, who was banned by ACM when he was caught on camera using a racial slur. His album Dangerous: The Double Album nevertheless was the only country album to spend its first 10 weeks atop the Billboard albums chart.

The Award Show Details

The ACM award went against tradition when they announced their entire list of performers in one fell-swoop, but there may still be a surprise addition to the list like the Grammy did.

For the second year in a row, the award show will take place live from three different venues in Nashville: the Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe.

The show will air live on Sunday, April 18, from 8-11 p.m. (live ET/delayed PT) and from 7-10 p.m. Central Time on CBS. It will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

Covid-19 Concerns

The show will air from three different venues to reduce the risk of the spread of the coronavirus, the same as last year. The producers of the show have promised that safety and health are their major concern, especially after the death of Charley Pride who performed at the show last year and died of the coronavirus on December 12. There is no confirmation however, of how or when the country singer and performer contracted the novel virus.

“The health and safety of the artists, fans, industry, staff and partners involved in the ACM Awards is the number one priority. All guidelines set forth by national, state and local health officials will be closely followed and implemented during the production along with additional safety measures to be instated by dick clark productions and the Academy of Country Music,” dick clark productions and ACM wrote in a joint statement.
