Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton Hosting 2021 Academy of Country Music Awards

Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton will host the 56th annual country music awards in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday 18, April. The “Black Like Me” singer, who also got to perform the song on the recent Grammy Awards stage, will become the second African American to host the show since its inception and will be the very first Black American woman to host the show.

CMA Awards Hosts: Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton

CBS, The Academy of Country Music and Dick Clark productions have just announced that the 15-time ACM award winner Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton will get to be the ones to host the upcoming Country Music Awards, a show dedicated to honoring both the biggest names in the business and emerging talent in country music.

The audience will get to witness the award show happen live in three iconic country music venues: The Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Café. You can watch the show on CBS and it is also available to stream live and on demand in Paramount+.

This would become Keith Urban’s second time hosting the show after he hosted the show last year, and this would be Guyton’s first time hosting the show. This would make it the 29th time in the show’s history that it has been hosted by more than one individual.

Another interesting fact about the two co-hosts is that Keith Urban appeared behind the piano as a surprise guest for the performance of Guyton’s mega-song “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” at last year’s show.

Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton’s Reaction

In a short video clip, Urban called Guyton to announce the news to her, and also inquired about how she is taking being a new mother. Guyton was thrilled to the point of brief incoherency, but she later reveals that she loves her new role, saying, “there’s nothing in this world that compares.”

“I’m beyond thrilled to be co-hosting with my friend Mickey,” Urban commented on why he wanted to co-host the show with Guyton, “I love that finally everyone will get to see her infectious energy and uber creative spirit in full light.”

Guyton gushed out about the feat saying, “Last year I had the opportunity to perform at the Academy of Country Music Award with someone I long admired, Keith Urban, and this year I am incredibly excited to share hosting duties with him. As I’ve said before, ‘If you can see it, you can be it,’ and it’s such an honor to step onto the ACM stage as the first ever Black woman to host the show. Over the years, the Academy of Country Music has always been a home for me through opportunities both onstage and throughout their work on diversity and inclusion. This is a moment of great significance for me and I am so thrilled to share it with all the fans.”
