For the second time in 2021, Willie Nelson is releasing a full length album. This time, the 88-year-old sang inspirational songs with his sister, family members and extended band for “The Willie Nelson Family”. The album will be dropping on November 19 via Legacy.
Willie Nelson Covers Songs and Classics for His Upcoming Project
For this new project, country star Willie Nelson performed a number of songs with the help of his real-life family and Family Band.
The “Red Headed Stranger” performer’s forthcoming EP will feature his interpretations of George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” and Kris Kristofferson’s “Why Me”. It will also include updated versions of “Family Bible”, which dropped the same day as the album’s announcement, and “Heaven and Hell.”
Dropping in November, the album is set to include some of Nelson’s final recordings with long-time drummer Paul English, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 87. The rerecordings include “Heaven and Hell,” “Kneel at the Feet of Jesus,” “Laying My Burdens Down,” and “Family Bible,” which is streaming now.
Along with English, other credits on the album include harmonica player Mickey Raphael and bassist Kevin Smith. “The Willie Nelson Family” features Nelson’s sister Bobbie Nelson, daughters Paula Nelson and Amy Nelson, and sons Micah and Lukas Nelson. (Lukas sings lead on “All Things Must Pass” and “Keep It on the Sunnyside.”)
“The Willie Nelson Family” is Nelson’s second album of the year after he dropped his second volume of Frank Sinatra covers “That’s Life” in February.
The album’s tracklist includes songs from Nelson’s past and covers of songs written by Hank Williams, A.P. Carter and others.
