George Strait and Wife Norma Married 49 Years
Country music icon George Strait is married to Norma Voss Strait. As he tells it, after they went on their first date, he didn’t ask her out again. He is quoted as saying, “Norma was the first girl I ever loved. We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town. I never really even thought anything about her, but then one day I asked her out and we went on a date. We didn’t see each other for a long time after that. Then one day, I thought, ‘I’m missing the boat here,’ and we started dating again.” Aw!
George and Norma Strait have been married for nearly five decades and their flame is burning as strong as it ever was. In 2012 George told People about Norma, “We love each other and we still like each other. We’re so blessed that we were able to experience this life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad.”
Who Is Norma Strait
The two were high school sweethearts and they made the lovestruck decision to elope to Mexico in 1971. Their parents were no doubt surprised!
In fact they decided to make it up to their parents by having another, more formal ceremony back home in Pearsall, Texas where their family could attend.
Later in the year George joined the United States Army and was sent to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

The Straits were blessed with two children. Their first child Jenifer was born October 6, 1972 in Hawaii and their son George Strait, Jr. was born in 1981. Sadly, Jenifer died after being involved in an automobile accident in San Marcos, Texas on June 25, 1986; she was just 13.
In February 2012, the Straits became grandparents when George Strait, Jr., and his wife, Tamara, welcomed their first child, George Harvey Strait III. The couple next welcomed a daughter, Jilliann Louise Strait, on Sept. 10, 2016.
