His family is primarily of English descent and he and his four older sisters lived in a small home built around his grandfather’s old toolshed. Jackson attended Elm Street Elementary and Newnan High School, and joined the band, Dixie Steel after graduation. His parents were Joseph Eugene “Daddy Gene” Jackson (1927–2000) and Ruth Musick “Mama Ruth” Jackson (1930–2017).
Alan was born in Newnan, Georgia, and he began writing music in 1983. As he grew up Jackson listened mostly to gospel music, until a friend introduced him to country VIPS Gene Watson, John Anderson, and Hank Williams Jr.
Alan and his wife Denise, moved from Newnan to Nashville, Tennessee after being married for six years in order for him to focus on music full-time.
Alan Jackson Moved from Georgia to Tennessee
In Tennessee, Jackson’s first job was in The Nashville Network’s mailroom and his wife worked as a flight attendant. One day she met Glen Campbell and mentioned her husband. Campbell gave her his business manager’s card, and one call helped jumpstart his career.
Jackson signed with Arista and later reached number three in 1990 with “Here in the Real World” on his debut album which also included two more top five hits: “Wanted” and “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow” plus his first number one, “I’d Love You All Over Again”.
From there the only way was up as far as his career went. His second album Don’t Rock the Jukebox came in 1991 and had four number-one singles: “Someday,” “Dallas” and “Love’s Got a Hold on You,” and the number three “Midnight in Montgomery.”
