Six-time Grammy award-winning country singer Kacey Musgraves finalized her divorce with fellow musician Ruston Kelly in September 2020. The divorce and the pain and drama that arose from it inspired her latest album “Star-Crossed”, where the song’s title track talks about two “lovers ripped right at the seam”.
The album explored the pain and loneliness that accompanies divorce, the fear of getting stuck reliving the glorious romantic days, and even being exploited by a man as a “breadwinner”. But the album which spoke pain, also described the need to move on.
Speaking of moving on, Musgraves is all for it, but she does admit that it’s not been easy.
Kacey Musgraves Calls Dating after Divorce “Shocking”
The “Rainbow” singer chatted about what it’s been like for her to start dating all over again after her three-year marriage fell apart with Apple Music.
“I feel, through this process, I’m a little closer to humanity in some ways,” Musgraves shares, “because you can be the Golden Hour girl, and you can have rose-colored glasses and experience this earth-shattering love, and you can experience the antithesis of that, and that is life, and you just roll with it.”
The road to getting her love life back on track hasn’t been entirely easy, and she recalled one time she was stood up for a Thanksgiving visit she had planned with someone she had been dating.
“It was kind of my first few steps into exploring being a single 30-something-year-old person after a marriage,” Musgraves remembered. “After a huge point in my career, more notoriety, it was a really naked place.”
The reality of dating again was something she said took her quite sometime to come to terms with. “It was a little shocking. It was surprising. And it made me just think that we all have flaws,” she explained.
Fortunately, she’s found a new guy that she’s currently dating. Cole Schafer, the brilliant man she’s getting to know a lot better, is a poet and marketing copywriter.
