Shania Twain’s Son Eja Lange Following In Mom’s Footsteps

When describing Shania Twain, do you start with the awards she’s received, or the hit songs she’s performed, do we count how many albums are now bestsellers, or do you just simply call her “the leader of the ‘90s country-pop crossover stars?” Are any of these ever going to do the country music singer justice?

Shania Twain has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists in country music history and among the best-selling artists of all time. She also bears the honorific title Queen of Country Pop.

I’m actually bothered if I meet someone who says they haven’t heard the song You’re Still the One by Shania Twain, because it’s like this mega-hit that you still hear walking down the street on a Tuesday over two decades since the song was originally released.

Shania Twain’s Son Has Musical Dreams

Shania Twain, originally from Ontario Canada, and now married to Frédéric Thiebaud, has one son Eja Lange from her former marriage to a producer and songwriter Robert John “Mutt” Lange. Eja Lange hasn’t been much in the public eye, choosing to keep a low profile as opposed to most kids with super-famous parents.

Eja comes from two parents who are a big success musically, as his mother, Shania Twain, is a worldwide country star who dominated country and pop through the late 90s and early 2000s, and his father, Robert Lange, is a big-time music producer that has produced for the likes of AC/DC, Def Leppard, Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and others. So it doesn’t come as a surprise if the only child of this iconic duo would want to choose a career in music.

Shania Twain’s always been a supportive mother and is totally okay that her now adult son wants to have a music career.

“He’s been making music for years now,” Shania Twain opened up to Sounds Like Nashville in 2017. “He’s very devoted and a real hard worker. He’s got a crazy passion for making music, and it’s really fun to watch.”  Eja doesn’t pin himself down to one genre, probably something he got from both his parents.

“He definitely listens to EDM, so that’s where he is as a fan, but he listens to all kinds of music,” she continued, “He likes a wide variety of stuff. Hans Zimmer is one of his biggest heroes. There’s a real broad spectrum in his life musically, so he makes all kinds of stuff and he orchestrates a lot of things. He loves to arrange music and write music. He’s just on his own journey.”

Eja Lange Doesn’t Want To Be A Performing Artist

Shania Twain expressed her happiness and pride when she found out that Eja wasn’t going to follow in every footstep of hers and perform on stage, but rather that he enjoys making music behind the scenes.

“He’s not taking interest in being a performer, so I’m relieved about that if I was being really honest,” Shania later said. “I think he’ll enjoy music more just being the creator of the music. It’s just really taxing being a performer, being the person out in front, unless that’s what he really wants. He just has a quiet confidence about him. He doesn’t have that extrovert—you know everybody look at me—type of personality. I think it will suit him well to be the creator.”

Amidst the divorce from her first husband, who she’s been with for over 19 years, you know, the one that she wrote You’re Still the One with, Shania Twain said that she’ taking a break from her music career to focus on raising her son, Eja.   At the time of the divorce, she accused her husband of having an affair with Marie-Anne Thiebaud. Twain’s current husband also happens to be her best friend’s ex-husband Frédéric Thiebaud.
