Blake Shelton Praises “His Better Half” Gwen Stefani During a TV Appearance: “Ultimate Bragging Rights”
The “God’s Country” singer Blake Shelton is proud and ready to share the beautiful song he wrote for his wife Gwen Stefani, 52, to the world.
Shelton, 45, first performed the song at their intimate wedding, which took place in July at their Oklahoma ranch.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers Wednesday, the country star shared his enthusiasm to have fans hear the original song he created for Stefani, performed on their wedding day.
“Gwen is always — she is constantly on my ass about I should be writing more songs. ‘How come you don’t write more songs?’ And I have gotten lazy about it over the years,” he said.
“And so I decided, well, I’ll step up and come up with something, and I did it,” he said about writing the song as a form of vow for their wedding. He also added that the song “We Can Reach the Stars” will be on the upcoming deluxe edition of his “Body Language” album, which will be dropping later this year.
“I’m excited for people to hear it,” Shelton continued. “A lot of people have asked about it since they found out that I did that. We’re excited about it. I want people to hear it. I mean, my God — I married Gwen Stefani. I want everybody to hear that! That’s the ultimate bragging rights.”
Carson Daly on Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s Emotional Wedding Vows
After the wedding, Carson Daly appeared on the Today Show and talked about Blake and Gwen’s weekend nuptials, which he officiated.
“At the wedding, Gwen starts and she wrote this [speech] saying, ‘Since I was a little girl, blah blah blah’ and she crushes [it] — not a dry eye in the church,” Daly recalled at the time. “… It was so perfect that I said to Blake when she was done, ‘Top that, buddy.’ “
“Guitar comes in, stool, next thing you know, he wrote her a song, and he sings her a song, while he’s crying, that he wrote specifically for her. ‘Reach the Star,’ I think it was called,” Daly said of the song. “Not a dry eye in the house. That was a highlight.”
Daly, at the time of the interview, was not sure if the song, which he described as “a hit”, will ever be officially released. But one thing that he was sure of at the time was that the song would “put everybody in the wedding at that moment. You will be transformed onto that hilltop in the middle of Oklahoma.”
