Who is Sandy Mahl? Everyone knows Sandy Mahl is the mother of Garth Brooks’ daughters Taylor, August, and Allie, and was married to Garth before Trisha Yearwood. But, did you know Sandy Mahl wrote some of Garth’s hit songs?
So, Who is Sandy Mahl?
Sandy is a very reserved person and mostly out of the public space except she is officially working. However, we found her lifestyle quite intriguing, so, we did a little digging here and there and successfully scooped out some facts about the country music superstar.
Sandy Mahl was born to parents Pat Mahl and John Mahl on January 16, 1965, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was raised with her sister Debbie Mahl in Tulsa, where she spent most of her childhood days until high school years. When it was time to go to college, Sandy attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater; where she first met her ex-husband Garth Brooks at a club fight.
The once-upon-a-time of most love stories are either romantic or candid. But Sandy Mahl met Garth Brooks in a rather interesting situation. She had gotten into an argument which turned to a full-fledged fight in the women’s restroom at Tumbleweed Ballroom in Stillwater, Oklahoma, according to Country Fancast. She then took a swing which ended with her fist to be stuck in the wall’s wood paneling.
About Sandy’s Ex-Husband, Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks at the time he met Sandy was a senior at the university who worked as a bouncer. The night of their first meeting, Sandy had stuck her fist in the wall’s wood paneling that night after getting into a fight in the ladies’ restroom. Luckily for Garth – and thank goodness for his job, he was able to break off the fight. They both tied the knot on May 24, 1986.
Sandy finished college to start a family with Garth in Nashville, Tennessee. They had three lovely daughters – Taylor Mayne Pearl Brooks, 28, August Anna Brooks, 26, and the youngest Allie Colleen Brooks, 24.
Sandy as a Songwriter
Sandy played a major role in Garth Brooks’ music career. Aside from being his partner, she wrote some of his songs including ‘I’ve Got A Good Thing Going,’ which was featured in his debut album Garth Brooks in 1989.
Sadly, after 15 years in marriage with Garth, the couple divorced in 2001. According to the country music star, their separation was something bound to happen. During the 2019 documentary Garth Brooks: The Road I’m On, Sandy shared that Garth was gone for about 8-10 weeks at a time, and his supposed free time at home was filled with parties, shows, and events.
Sandy Had a Health Challenge Some Years Ago
Sandy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. The cancer battle did not get a lot of media attention since she was mostly a private person. Moreover, it was largely overshadowed by the news of Brooks’ marriage to fellow country singer Trisha Yearwood.
After her divorce from Garth Brooks, Sandy remained single. She focused on being a mother to their three children.
